It is with great pleasure that I ask you to join me in congratulating our fellow staff member and Associate Vice President, Mr. Alex Flores.
Alex has been nominated as 2009 Outstanding Delgado Alumnus for Architectural & Civil Engineering Technology. Alex is slated to receive a Circle of Excellence Award and to be honored and recognized as an outstanding alumnus. The six selected Award winning alumni are outstanding not only in their professional record but also in what they give back to the community, such as participation on boards and volunteering their time. Winners are nominated by faculty, staff or community members and are selected by a committee comprised of alumni, faculty, staff and students. The Circle winners exemplify Delgado's Mission of preparing students from diverse backgrounds to attain their educational, career, and personal goals, to think critically, to demonstrate leadership, and to be productive and responsible citizens.
Following is some background information on our friend Alex.
Alex has been employed with Krebs, LaSalle LeMieux Consultants, Inc. since 1992. His responsibilities as Project Manager include client relations, design, coordination and administration of land development projects. He has extensive experience in Urban and Regional Planning, with over 20 years of land development projects.
Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Alex attended the “Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras”, Delgado Community College, Tulane University, and University of New Orleans. He completed the Honduras Foreign Service Training Program, graduated from Delgado Community College with dual Associate Degrees in Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering and graduated from the University of New Orleans with a B.S. in Urban Planning.
After passing the entrance exam for the Honduras Diplomatic Service, he joined the Foreign Service where he held several important positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1983, he was invited by the U.S. Government to lecture at several universities in the U.S. and Canada. He was named Ambassador of Honduras to Canada from 1984 to 1988; subsequently, he returned to Honduras to serve as Deputy Director of Foreign Policy from 1988 to 1989. Alex was appointed Deputy Consul General of Honduras to New Orleans from 1989 to 1991.
Alex is the President-Elect of the American Public Works Association, New Orleans Branch. In 2008, during the APWA International Congress held in New Orleans, Alex participated in the coordination of the Futures Program, which purpose is to promote APWA opportunities for college and high school students interested in the field of Public Works. He serves as a member of the Advisory Committee to the Architectural Engineering and Construction Program at Delgado Community College. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute and the American Planning Association and at present, has been accepted at Tulane University, School of Architecture, to pursue a Masters Degree in building preservation.
